What is Kshar Sutra?
An ancient Ayurvedic technique Kshar Sutra was re introduced at Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalad ( Banaras Hindu University) in 1976, by Dr. Deshpande. It involves using a surgical thread coated 21 times with herbs such as apamarg and haldi.
In 1991' WHO gave this technique its due recognition.
How it acts :-
It acts through chemical cauterization. It destroys the infected material presents in the sinus and makes the wound free of infection. The wound heals naturally. It also eradicates infected anal glands. The complete eradication of infection ensures complete eradication of disease.
When tied in Fissure and piles, it cuts the mass and eradicates infection. Therefore the wound heals without complication. It is natural; therefore, free of side effects.
Pain - though local anesthesia is adminstered, the pain is akin to a hair being pulled for a couple of seconds. In the initial days pain killers may be required, but only for some.
Duration of therapy :-
Piles, Fissures: One time sitting (stay of 10 days).
Fistula and Sinus: As per the length of track. Weekly changing of thread. Takes normally two months for a person to get back to complete normal activity.
